A hacker can take complete control of your network through just one device. Many of us see load balancers as the ultimate guardians of our perimeter. They quietly route traffic and keep everything online. But right now, one of the most trusted systems in network administration has a massive target on its back.
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency just added a critical vulnerability affecting the Progress Kemp LoadMaster to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. We're talking about CVE-2026-8037, a devastating OS command injection flaw with a CVSS rating of 9.6. And yeah, that's about as close to a perfect ten of bad news as you can get. This is a worst-case scenario. It allows for unauthenticated remote code execution. That means if your load balancer is facing the internet, an attacker can bypass all your defenses and get root access to your entire network. CISA has issued a strict patching deadline. Since these devices are public-facing, the risk of active exploitation is extremely high. You've got to prioritize your patch management workflow today.
Here are three steps to secure your infrastructure.
First, verify your exposure. Any Progress Kemp LoadMaster system running version 7.2.48.1 or older is vulnerable. For example, if your console shows version 7.2.48.0, you're at risk. Log in right now, check your version, and confirm where you stand.
Second, understand the threat. An attacker exploits CVE-2026-8037 by sending a specially crafted request to the management interface. They don't even need credentials to trigger the exploit and run system-level commands as root. You should check your device logs right now for any weird admin activity or unexpected outbound connections.
Third, apply the update. You need to upgrade to version 7.2.48.2 or later to close this loophole. If you can't patch immediately, you have to restrict access to the management portal. Don't expose port 443 to the public internet. Instead, lock it down strictly to a secure management network.
Your load balancer is the gateway to your network. Don't let it become the backdoor. Go to the support portal, download the Progress Kemp LoadMaster patch, and secure your systems. Subscribe to stay updated on critical security threats, and share this update with your team.
